SO I HAVE A QUESTION FOR BILL DONOHUE: WHO'S THE WHORE NOW?

When you call someone an asshole and then apologize by saying, You know, geez, I'm really sorry that you are such an asshole," there are people who really don't consider that an apology at all. That's what Reverend John Hagee of the Cornerstone Church said in an apology to the estimated 750 000 000 Catholics worldwide for calling Catholicism "the great whore." Well none of this would matter if the Republican nominee for the highest office in the US had not been endorsed by Reverend Hagee. Even deeper down the food chain both of those facts would be equally meaningless if the Right Wing had not made so much hay out of the vocal emissions of Obama's pastor Reverend Jeremiah Wright. In a political blunder that rivals Marie Antoinette's "let 'em eat cake," speech, McCain decides to step out into the bright light of examination and endorse Hagee's half assed apology. Take a quick read of just how the reverend apologized:
“Out of a desire to advance greater unity among Catholics and Evangelicals in promoting the common good, I want to express deep regret for any comments that Catholics have found hurtful. After engaging in constructive dialogue with Catholic friends and leaders, I now have an improved understanding of the Catholic Church, its relation to the Jewish faith, and the history of anti-Catholicism.”-- Reverend John Hagee, in his letter to the Catholic People of America as sent to Catholic League President Bill Donohue., 12 May 2008.

Yeah, sure. So you will never see a political candidate or someone who want entre into the halls of power at the White House actually getting on their knees and blowing cock to get what they want literally but this is as close to that as you will likely ever see ion your lifetime. This is a perversion of reason that actually has forced me to take a big stiff drink and skip both my coffee and my bagel this morning. In an effort to not be shut out of the Bukkake fest of influence in a potential McCain White House Bill Donohue of the Catholic League sold out his entire religion to a fat fraud with a diorama. Donohue fearful that his presence would not be welcome in the McCain White House and that Hagee would become the de facto pastor to the President replacing Doctor Dobson at the President's ear—accepted the non-apology. It's ugly folks cover the eyes of your children and run them inside your home lock the door, unplug all the electrical appliances break out your plastic sheeting and shelter in place. There ain't no rapture for the stupid. Yah know it's one thing to say okay "I accept Hagee's shitty apology," it's another to say, "I accept his shitty apology and now shut the fuck up about it."
I often disagree with people who say the last acceptable bigotry in America is anti-Catholicism. I usually hear that coming out of the mouths of people who think Christianity is "under siege" or "being persecuted" in the United States. What they mean is Religious folk, who are not Faithful folk in my book, don't get to tell everyone else what to eat, who to fuck, when and where and for whom to vote, where you can live and with whom or even what you can or cannot do on Sunday. And this is the clear cut difference between a liberal ethos and the conservative ethos. One wants progress to continue by allowing people to choose their own paths in life and the other wants to dictate what you can and cannot do based on a book translated for the political purpose of a British king 400 years ago.

In Hindsight
Quite some time ago I took on a woman that had converted to Catholicism after living as who knows what for many years. She had enjoyed fame and riches as an artist and her life had ebbed and flowed like many people's do over the decades. The she "got religion" became a catholic and went on the anti-immigrant anti-liberal warpath. Many of my readers also will note that this woman Suzy Rice is just as crazy a wingnut as Debbie Schlussel is but when confronted with the facts like most wingnuts she pointed to how we bring you the news not the reportage itself. If you've got one picture of a naked woman on your website you are a devil worshipper and that's the end of the argument. And see this is the real problem I have with the Right Wing. They want to be the rule makers, the time keepers, the Tax man and the debate moderator. When things are looking bleak they want the ability to change the rules so they still "win." I was warned that you will never meet crazier motherfuckers than a middle aged AIPAC lovin' Muslim hating Jewish chick or a middle aged immigrant hating Catholic convert that's been divorced at least once. This appears to be "the Gospel" if you'll pardon the pun. So as the In Hindsight question of the day I have to ask, "What makes women with open minds [As a short list I would cite (o)(o), the blogger formerly known as DCup, SuziRiot, AnitaXanaxNow, Freida Bee, Lemon Gloria and Katie Schwartz.] so generally and clearly liberal in their politics and not at all insane or hysterical about "hot button" issues.

I have to give my mother credit for my liberal roots. But what has kept me from being susceptible to becoming a single, hot button issue voter is the ability to listen to both sides and to weight things. I have to look at things in the micro (how does it affect me) and macro (how does it affect everyone). When I do that, I find that the liberal position on anything is the only position I can take. I also like the concepts of freedom, justice and equality. Simple things, you know.
Simple my dear but oh so complex for the closed minded. Very well put.
I know this was not put out to anf 400 year old demons who happen to be male but I feel the long lifespan of my species makes it nartural to wish for progressive ideas to move the Society of the Afterlife forward. Those who live short lives and feel there can only be a post mortem reward, be it 72 virgins or a land of milk and honey, can easily be swayed to consume the entire planet leaving nothing for a future they see as damned. The joke of course is on the religious who feast on the futures of their progeny because they their children and their grandchildren will suffer to pay off this debt in Hell.
On balance I think this piece needs to be weighed with what Katha Pollitt has written in The Chicago Tribune and how it was recived by the Catholic League.
I just nipped over to B$V and read something that i thought was fucking hilarious. One of their sheeple named js made a comment that "our enemies want us to forget religion so they can talk politics, that way the corruption and the immorality can be addressed as a normal business factor, without anyone bringing in a sense of right and wrong…the truth is…christians are told to gather together…we are a flock." Well that explains a lot. Like why when their transgressions are brought up you get kicked off their site and when you make a good point you get ridiculed by the rest of the right wing mouth breathers and religous zealots. Mark Noonan has no room for Catholics who do not bow down and take it like a man and refuse to ask the simplest questions about corruption within his own apostatic church. And yet he can find in his mind that Liberalism is somehow evil. Bah! Conservative Catholics are no less a danger to the peace and liberty of America than a meeting of the leadership of al Qaeda. And for me my beef is equally as personal for Donohue, Noonan and therest hate me without knowing me because of my sexual preference and my view that a woman has a right to choose to give birth or not. How very fucking Chrsitian!
I hope it's not because of cynicism that I'm not more riled up. If I thought getting all riled up would help end the death penalty or global warming, I might feel bad I weren't doing more. What the hell am I saying, I do feel guilty I'm not doing more. I think that being focused on survival keeps us from focusing on those things which seem "superfluous", at least me. I do seem to fall on the liberal side of the fence on any issue I can think of. I wish the conservatives hadn't co-opted the word "conservative", otherwise, a conservationist might be what I might consider myself. I'm actually rather stingy. Just ask my kids who have nicknamed me "Cheapy the Cheapskate". It's just that food, healthcare and education is not where we should be skimping.
P.S.- I've been meaning to comment that your right sidebar is obstructing your posts on my mac. I'm not sure if that would happen on a pc too, but I cannot read every word and this cannot be tolerated.
(Thank you for the link, dear Fred RIcky.)
On the side bar issue this was a temporary fix as MSIE was kicking the sidebar to the bottom of the page. I am told that by COB today it will be "goosed" several pixels to the right for the benefit of Mac users.
well, i can you from experience that being either insane or hysterical (or both) can be mentally, spiritually, and physically exhausting.
'hot button issues' being, well, HOT, implies, as well, that most people do not, and will not, change. so why ruin one's day or one's week or month trying to change them. a defeatist attitude, to be sure. but as an alternative look at what happens to people who take themselves too seriously.
to be sure, some people, as they get older, eventually come to their senses and, as they say, these birds will tend to flock together and keep each other warm and (generally) protected against the rain and sleet being poured down by the raging nutjobs.
me, i just want to sleep well at night.
Adminstrative note: I too am having trouble with the sidebars obscuring the posts.
In my 46 1-2 years on Terra I have had virtually no contact with White Baptists, their Catholic enablers such as Donahue or Noonan or their AIPAC Jewish enablers. So, I can't offer any opinions about this but it seems like as a cultural atheist Jew, Mr. Hagee and Senator McIguana seem to be asking me to choose a side between modern Catholicism and the others.
It's not a choice I really am supposed to make because I'm an atheist and I'm no fan of any kind of organized religion. That said, if I have to choose, I siding with the Catholics, ex-Donahue, Giuliani, Ratzinger, etc.
I live in a Catholic country now in which there is also a good percentage of Jews, Muslims, Arab Christians, Buddhists and atheist/agnostic/humanist/secularists. From what I have learned living in many big cities of the world, contemporary Catholicism, even far afield from Jesuits and Liberation Theologists, is not ANYTHING like White Southern Baptist practice.
At least in the largely Catholic places I have lived, NYC, CT, Madrid, Oviedo and Panama, the practice of the religion tends to focus more on some of the rituals and even more so on the reformist teachings of Jesus. At least among my Catholic friends here, Jesus is thought of as The Prince Of Peace and is a source of connection with the rest of humanity. Their belief in Jesus Christ's supernatural being does not inform their politics and does not impede their fun. It certainly doesn't make any Catholic I know bellicose and crazy.
As a atheist Jew, I do not need Hagee to protect me from Catholics. I expect someday sooner rather than later to need Catholics to protect me from Hagee.
